Simplicity out of Complexity
my favorite part of design arises from the proposal of a simple idea. out of that simple idea comes a process of extrapolating the idea along the planes of reality that I know to be true. after much work (or little depending on how often I have thought of the subjects prior to their proposal) we will arrive at a complex, fully functioning thing. This thing is not an idea, it has since grown into something with many more facets, with layers of meaning not previously seen. many times the same people who proposed the idea are the ones left dissatisfied at its final form. the problem i have recently been faced with is one of patience, one of perseverance. the point when the idea has become most complex is the moment that we can distill the idea into its purest form. the extraneous features of the idea have grown and festered, but the nucleus of the thing is pure and crystalline. it is beautiful and ready to be plucked out of the detritus. but those wasted facets have been too distracting, they have hidden the genius of the thing, of the original idea, from all parties involved.
the next step in creation is to edit the complexity out of the thing. To only show the beautiful simplicity contained within.
